On April 5, 2025 an unusual and dangerous accident in Indonesia has left many shocked after a 61-year-old man and his co-pilot fell 12 metres off a bridge after following Google Maps directions exactly.

The incident occurred while the driver was heading to a friend’s house, completely trusting the route suggested by the Maps app. According to CNN, the app suddenly changed direction mid-trip, taking them straight to an unfinished bridge.

Unaware of the danger, the driver continued moving forward and the result was a fall onto a busy road.

Fortunately, the car landed in a clear area, avoiding a major tragedy. Despite the 12-metre fall and the total destruction of the car, both the driver and his 46-year-old passenger suffered only minor injuries.

Check out the shocking video below:

This isn’t the first time a GPS-based app, or Google Maps, has led to such a mishap. In a similar case in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, on Nov 21, 2024, three men lost their lives after Google Maps allegedly directed their car onto an incomplete bridge that led straight into a river. The car plunged into the water, resulting in a fatal crash.
