Starting in July 2025, certain smartphones will be able to connect free of charge to the Starlink network, the innovative satellite internet service promoted by Elon Musk. This advance promises to revolutionize connectivity in areas without mobile coverage. Is your phone compatible? Discover the confirmed models and how to take advantage of this technology.

The lack of mobile coverage in rural and isolated areas has been a problem for years, but Starlink has the solution. Its satellite network will offer free connection to certain smartphones without the need for cell phone antennas. Starting in July 2025, some models will be able to access this service automatically, allowing them to send messages, share locations and even contact emergency services. How will it work and which devices will be compatible?

Starlink on smartphones: How will the free connection work?

Starlink’s satellite service will allow users in areas without mobile coverage to stay connected without relying on traditional networks. Through this new technology, devices will be able to:

  • • Send and receive text messages.
  • • Share location in real time.
  • • Access emergency services without mobile coverage.

In the early stages, the connection will be limited to these basic uses, but it is expected that in the future it will also allow voice calls and internet browsing.

Smartphones compatible with the free Starlink connection

Not all devices will be able to take advantage of this new feature. Compatibility will depend on both the phone model and the software version installed.

So far, the confirmed models that will be able to connect to the Starlink satellite network are:

Apple

  • • iPhone 14 and later models (including Pro and Pro Max).

Google

  • • Pixel 9 and its Pro, Pro Fold and Pro XL versions.

Motorola

  • • All models launched from 2024 onwards.

Samsung

  • • Galaxy A14, A15, A16, A35, A53, A54.
  • • All models in the S21 series and above (including Plus, Ultra, and Fan Edition).
  • • X Cover6 Pro.
  • • Z Flip3 and later.
  • • Z Fold3 and above.

How to connect to Starlink from your phone

The activation of this technology will be gradual. When a compatible smartphone loses cellular signal and switches to satellite connection, the legend “T-Mobile SpaceX” will appear on the screen, indicating that it is using the Starlink network.

To ensure access to this technology, users must:

  1. 1. Keep your device updated with the latest version of the operating system.
  2. 2. Activate the satellite connection option, which will be available in the network settings.
  3. 3. Have a compatible model, since only some phones will be able to connect to the satellites.

Requirements and steps to connect to Starlink

While satellite connectivity on mobile devices will be free, Starlink also offers a residential internet service with specific hardware. For those who wish to take advantage of it, it is necessary to follow these steps:

  • • Register on the official Starlink website and check availability in your area.
  • • Select a service plan, such as Residential (unlimited data) or Lite (for reduced usage).
  • • Purchase the necessary equipment, such as the Gen 3 router or the Mini model, which allows speeds greater than 100 Mbps.
  • • Install the device correctly, making sure it has a clear view of the sky.
  • • Use the Starlink app, which helps you find the best connection point.

The future of connectivity with Starlink

This free satellite internet service would be a major change in mobile connectivity, especially in regions where traditional coverage is limited or non-existent. Although in its first phase it will only allow basic functions, the possibility of making calls and browsing the internet without mobile networks could completely change the way we use our devices.

Is your smartphone compatible with this revolution? If not, it may be time to consider an upgrade.
