xAi has now incorporated memory capabilities into its chatbot, Grok, so it can recall conversations it has with the user and use the interactions to provide personalised responses.
ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are chatbots that can remember information the user has shared with them in conversations and retrieve it to offer more precise responses based on their interests and preferences.
This is what is known as ‘memory’, a capability that is now also available in the xAi chatbot, which will allow it to offer personalised responses when asked for advice and recommendations, as the company has reported through its profile on X.
This ability is also “transparent,” as it displays in an adjacent window“what Grok knows and chooses to forget” in the chats referenced for his response. It also includes a function to make him forget information.
The memory is currently in beta on the web and mobile apps, although it cannot be used in either the European Union or the United Kingdom.
X Will Replace DMs with XChat
According to the latest indications, X is taking another step toward its total transformation with the announcement of the arrival of XChat, a messaging service that will replace traditional direct messages (DMs) on the app. This change is part of Elon Musk’s vision to turn X into an “app for everything,” similar to WeChat, integrating multiple services such as messaging, payments, and more, into a single space.
According to rumors from X employees and independent researchers, the classic DM tab could soon be replaced by XChat. The change was hinted at by Zach Warunek, a software engineer at X, who responded to a user reporting issues with DM requests.
In his post, Warunek stated that the page would be removed soon. But he clarified that the existing DMs tab would be removed entirely, not just the requests section. This move aligns with Musk’s broader vision of turning X into an all-in-one platform.
If we recall correctly, in February, the CEO of X stated that he plans to eventually stop using a phone number. Instead, he will choose to manage all messages and calls exclusively through X.
There’s no official release date for XChat yet, but several employees who are open about the feature in X suggest that its release is imminent.
